Ingredients
  

  • 1 box 8 ounces elbow macaroni elbows (227 grams)
  • 1/4 cup 1/2 stick butter (57 grams)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 30 grams
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 grams
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups milk 473 milliliters
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese 227 grams

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.
  • Add the macaroni and cook according to package directions, or until cooked through but firm to the bite, about 8 minutes.
  • While the macaroni is cooking, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the shredded Cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  • Drain the macaroni and add it to the cheese sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!
