Ingredients
  

  • 1 3/4 cups 220g all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 200g granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup 25g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 cup 240ml mayonnaise (full-fat)
  • 1 cup 240ml water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • 1/4 cup 60g butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup 20g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups 250g powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons 45ml milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda until well combined.
  • Add mayonnaise, water, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined, but avoid overmixing.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan(s), spreading it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes for a 9x13 inch pan or 25-30 minutes for round pans, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and cocoa powder until well combined and smooth.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk and vanilla extract, beating well after each addition until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency.
  • Once the cake has cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
