Equipment

  • 1 Baking dish Use a 9x13-inch dish for even baking.
  • 1 Mixing Bowl Medium-sized, for preparing the apple pie filling.
  • 1 Rolling Pin Optional, for flattening cinnamon rolls if needed.
  • 1 Knife For slicing apples or cutting cinnamon rolls if required.
  • 1 Cutting board For safely chopping apples.
  • 1 Whisk or Spoon For mixing the ingredients thoroughly.
  • 1 Oven mitts For safely handling the hot baking dish.
  • 1 Measuring Cups & Spoons For precise measurement of ingredients.
  • 1 Pastry Brush Optional, for brushing melted butter or glaze on top.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cans Cinnamon rolls Standard-sized (16.3 oz each); includes icing.
  • 3 Cups Apples (peeled & diced) Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor.
  • 1/2 Cup Brown sugar Packed; adds rich, caramel-like sweetness.
  • 1/2 Cup Granulated sugar Balances sweetness and texture.
  • 2 Tsp Cinnamon Ground; enhances the warm, spiced flavor.
  • 1/4 Tsp Nutmeg Optional; adds depth and warmth to the filling.
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon juice Prevents apples from browning and adds a tangy kick.
  • 2 Tbsp Butter Unsalted; for a richer filling texture.
  • 1 Tbsp Cornstarch Optional; thickens the filling if needed.
  • 1 Pinch Salt Enhances overall flavor.

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls
Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and separate them. Reserve the included icing for later.
  • Flatten each cinnamon roll slightly with a rolling pin or your hands to form a thin disk.
  • Prepare the Apple Pie Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
  • Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
  • If the mixture seems too liquid, stir in 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken.
  • Layer the Dish
Arrange the flattened cinnamon rolls on the bottom of the baking dish, slightly overlapping to form a crust.
  • Spread the prepared apple pie filling evenly over the cinnamon roll crust.
  • Top with Cinnamon Rolls
Place the remaining cinnamon rolls on top of the apple pie filling, leaving small gaps for steam to escape.
  • Bake
Cover the dish with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10–15 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Glaze the Top
Once out of the oven, drizzle the reserved cinnamon roll icing over the top for a sweet finishing touch.
  • Cool and Serve
Allow the dessert to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
