Ingredients
  

  • 2.5 US cups 597 ml milk
  • 5 US tablespoons 77.5 g sugar
  • 3 US tablespoons 22.5 g cornstarch
  • 3 US tablespoons 44 ml milk, warm or at room temperature
  • ½ to 2 US cups 75 to 300 g chopped fruit, such as apples, mangoes, sapota, banana, pears, strawberries, or pomegranate

Instructions
 

Making Custard Sauce

  • Heat the milk in a thick-bottomed pan over medium heat, until it comes to a gentle simmer.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the custard powder and 3 tablespoons of warm milk until smooth.
  • Once the milk is simmering, reduce the heat to low and whisk in the custard paste one portion at a time, stirring vigorously to prevent lumps from forming.
  • Continue cooking the custard over low heat, stirring frequently, for 5-6 minutes, or until it has thickened to your desired consistency.
  • Remove the custard from the heat and let it cool completely.

Making Fruit Custard

  • Chop the fruit into small pieces.
  • Add the fruit to the cooled custard and stir to combine.
  • Serve the fruit custard immediately or chill it in the refrigerator for later.

Notes

Tips
 
For a thicker custard, cook it for a few minutes longer.
To prevent the custard from forming lumps, make sure to whisk it constantly while it is cooking.
You can use any type of fruit you like, but avoid using citrus fruits, which can curdle the custard.
To make a vegan version of this recipe, use almond milk instead of regular milk.
