Step 1: Preheat Oven
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Step 2: Prepare Rice Mixture
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine uncooked rice, milk, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 3: Combine Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, mix together beaten egg, evaporated milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Step 4: Add Egg Mixture
- Gradually stir the egg mixture into the rice mixture, making sure to stir constantly. Continue cooking and stirring over low heat for another 2 minutes.
Step 5: Transfer to Baking Dish
- Pour the mixture into a greased 1-quart (approximately 1 liter) baking dish.
Step 6: Sprinkle Nutmeg
- Sprinkle the ground nutmeg evenly over the top of the pudding mixture.
Step 7: Bake
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, stir the pudding mixture, and then bake for an additional 30 minutes or until the pudding is set.
Step 8: Serve
- Once baked, remove the rice pudding from the oven. Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or chilled.
