Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup 200g granulated sugar
  • 1 cup 120g all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup 120ml milk
  • 1/4 cup 60g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup 200g brown sugar, packed
  • 1 3/4 cups 420ml hot water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth.
  • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar and hot water until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Carefully pour the brown sugar mixture over the batter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  • Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cake is set.
